From Young Beginners To Adults
In keeping with my goal of preserving the great style of piano playing that I learned from my teacher, William Browning and the kind of music that people loved to hear, I have always felt that it is important to instruct students of all ages and all levels.
As a parent, and husband of a School Social Worker who specialized in Early Childhood, I am extremely comfortable working with young children. I emphasize a friendly, unintimidating relationship and instruct using fun musical activities, rote learning alongside reading music, and piano fundamentals, all carefully graded to encourage students' confidence and progress. I am always very willing to let students choose holiday, popular or any music they have heard that they would like to play.
I also work with many high school and college-aged students. I am very supportive of them personally and am quick to offer them stimulating pianistic and musical challenges. In addition to serious piano students, I have been very successful teaching singers, violinists, and band instrumentalists to learn piano as a second instrument and amplify their theory and musical knowledge.
In addition, I work with adults who are beginners, adults who want to get their old piano-playing skills back, and adult pianists who wish to learn more.
I am always respectful of my adult students' busy schedules and responsibilities; my instruction is relaxed but also in-depth, designed to help adults become less self-critical and play successfully.
